Case Study:

Polígon Industrial de Polinyà

In collaboration with the Design Department of the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Barcelona, a graphic identity project was developed for the industrial estate of the Polinyà City Council.

The project included an analysis of the inbound and outbound circulation of freight vehicles. The visual information obtained from this study provided key reference elements that informed the symbolic encoding of the identity system.

From the urban layout, the characteristic roundabouts of the industrial estate were selected as the project’s primary symbolic foundation. In parallel, the place name was explored through different typographic approaches. The study of alphabetic composition led to the formalisation of an abstract symbol that simultaneously refers to the site’s characteristic circulation patterns and to the initials of its name.

Using this symbolic base as a guiding framework, various typographic forms were investigated in order to establish a foundation that would allow for a coherent integration with the formal presence of the symbol, and, above all, with the abstract notion of fluid circulation that the identity seeks to convey.
